Our Approach

Alternative Solutions AG is an Antigua-based agricultural initiative focused on building sustainable, adaptable food-growing environments that combine modern techniques with proven farming practices. The work integrates hydroponic systems, soil-based cultivation, and small-scale livestock and aquaculture concepts to demonstrate how food can be produced efficiently across different environments and space constraints.

Rather than relying on a single method, Alternative Solutions AG explores multiple approaches to food production, including soilless hydroponics, living soil systems, container growing, and conventional field cultivation. This dual approach allows systems to be tested, refined, and adapted—whether for larger agricultural plots or for smaller household and community-level applications.

Sustainability is treated as a practical requirement, not a slogan. Water efficiency, energy independence, and responsible land use guide how systems are designed and implemented. By integrating appropriate technology and hands-on agricultural knowledge, Alternative Solutions AG works to reduce environmental impact while improving reliability and resilience in food production.

At its core, Alternative Solutions AG is about stewardship and knowledge sharing. The goal is not only to grow food, but to help people understand how to recreate productive growing environments of their own supporting Antigua’s long-term food security, environmental health, and community resilience through practical, repeatable solutions.

Alexis Lewis is the founder and lead operator of Alternative Solutions AG. He oversees all aspects of farm development and operations, including hydroponic and greenhouse systems, field irrigation, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). His work also includes managing field fertility and water conservation strategies to ensure sustainable and efficient agricultural practices.

In addition, Alexis leads the microgreens, vermiculture, poultry ,aqua culture divisions, reflecting a hands-on, diversified approach to food production. His focus is on building resilient, locally grounded agricultural systems that combine modern techniques with practical field experience.

Our vision

Our vision is to see Antigua develop a resilient, self-sufficient food system where individuals, families, and communities are empowered to produce their own food at multiple scales. We envision a future where sustainable growing environments whether small household systems or larger agricultural sites are accessible, practical, and rooted in local conditions.

Alternative Solutions AG aspires to help establish Antigua as a model for integrated, sustainable food production by combining conventional farming knowledge with modern techniques and appropriate technology. Through demonstration, education, and replication, we seek to support a food system that strengthens food security, environmental stewardship, and long-term community resilience.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop and demonstrate scalable food production systems that can be replicated across different environments and household sizes. Alternative Solutions AG focuses on producing food at scale while intentionally designing systems that can be adapted down to smaller, accessible micro food systems for homes, schools, and community spaces.

Using a working two-acre site as a demonstration and research environment, we develop and refine integrated food systems that include soil-based cultivation, container growing, hydroponics, and recirculating aquaculture. These systems are designed to be modular and reproducible, allowing individuals and families to apply the same principles within their own spaces whether in backyards, small plots, or indoor settings.

A core objective of Alternative Solutions AG is education through practical application. By translating large-scale agricultural methods into smaller, manageable systems, we aim to support hands-on learning for children, families, and communities, including opportunities to understand food production, basic animal care, and environmental responsibility.

This work is intended to complement existing government food and agricultural initiatives by providing applied, field-tested models that communities can adopt and adapt. Through partnerships, grants, and collaborative programs, Alternative Solutions AG seeks to strengthen local food resilience by empowering people with the knowledge and tools needed to participate directly in food production.
